Jäderholms Country Estate arranges courses for the guests in Earth Science and Photography for those guests interested to relax by experiencing nature. These courses in Geology and Photography are given by the host couple, held from April to mid October. Exact times for the courses will be published in spring 2011 on this page.

The photo course may be in addition to Swedish, also held in English.
The geology course can be held in three languages: Swedish, English and German.
Course program:
Following traces of the Ice Age – a trip back in time
- About the last Ice Age and its importance for the present landscape -
ONE FULL DAY
at 10-12 lecture at the hayloft / or 1700-century house on the farm
lunch
13-16 excursion around ”By” village
The lecture deals with the Quaternary, during which the ice sculptured our landscape. Traces of the ice sheet are very prominent in our area around By. The lecture will be followed up by an excursion during which we will visit localities showing clear evidence of the last glaciation.
After the course, participants will be able to identify common tracks of an ice sheet in a landscape.
Minimum is 8 students per course.

Creative Photography in Scandinavian light
- to create depth in the image using the light, sharpness and composition -
TWO DAYS
Arrival at 9:00, departure the next day at 17.00
DAY ONE
10 am – 12: in the 1700s annexe
review of participants’ prior knowledge / camera / Golden Mean / framing and composition / lighting and sharpness
Lunch
Afternoon: Continuation of morning session photo assignments and individual instruction on composition / resting
joint dinner
evening: photo assignment and individual guidance on depth of field, lighting and volume
DAY TWO
dawn: photo assignment
Joint Breakfast
9-12: Addition of photographs and work on selection of images that show the group
lunch
13-17: image display and joint review / evaluation
During the course, it is important that participants have time to work at dusk and / or dawn. This so we can try to capture the northern light – which is so special here. The students will be allowed to sleep during the day on the farm. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared at times governed by the light conditions .
After the course, participants will have gained an awareness of the importance of composition and light for volume and depth of the photographic image.
The participants should have a basic experience of photography and an own digital camera.
